During the times of economic uncertainty it has become extremely difficult for companies to keep their teams well trained and in-house. This antiquated way of doing business has become neither cost effective nor practical. Outsourcing product development services has become necessary because the development of a new product is extremely complex.

So keeping your project all in one piece in-house is out of the question, but if for that matter you have to rely on outsourcing for your product development services, you will most likely ask yourself what main issues you should keep in mind. There following might answer your questions:

1) The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about outsourcing is the saving of money. You should be aware of all the costs that will come up to you. Also you should talk to your product development services provider and negotiate the prices that possible changes could imply.

2) Your provider should have an excellent reputation. For that matter you should get in contact with former clients in order to get an idea what you are dealing with.

3) The company you hire or your product development services should be experienced in running the production runs and new product introductions in the past. Valuable outsourcing partners need to have this practical knowledge, because if they have solely worked in the labs developing projects their insight is not great enough to support you.

4) Look at completely finished projects of the company and check if they have completed it to your satisfaction.

5) Has the team that is supposed to work for you received quality training? Test their knowledge in subjects such as “six sigma design” and the difference between ‘reliable’ and ‘repeatable.

6) What is your product development services company planning on doing with your product after it has been released? In order to get an honest answer you should not ask the company you are planning on working with but rather their former customers.

If you take all these points into consideration you will surely find a compatible partner who will commit himself fully to your needs and who will work on your project to your satisfaction.
