Talking to your Gadgets is the Way of the Future

Since Apple released iPhone 4S, everybody is talking about Siri. The great thing is that Siri can answer. Now this technology is ready to be applied to TVs, games and computers.
“Take a Photo”, Call home”, “Send an E-mail” or even “tell me what the meaning of life is.” Four very different phrases with just one thing in common: you can say all of them to iPhone 4S, the fifth generation of Apple’s smartphone that was launched this year. Siri, an intelligent software able to recognize voices, is responsible for the fast success and sales hit of iPhone 4S.

According to The New York Times, this voice recognition technology will soon be available in other electronic devices. This week Microsoft will release an update to Microsoft Xbox in which gamers will start to talk to their game console and television, giving instructions like “play that movie”, “change the TV channel” or “now I want to play that game”.
Apple’s Siri won’t be a privilege only for iPhone 4S for too long: the American company is planning to develop Siri for other products, for instance the iPad and iPod. And an Apple TV is expected to be launched in 2013, reveals The New York Times. Yes, Siri will be part of this new TV’s technology. In a few years a remote control will be useless. Why should you use an enormous object with hundreds of buttons that you keep breaking every time it falls from your hand? Just throw it away and start talking with your machines. It will be easier.
In the past, men used to say that women were too talkative. In the future, cars, microwaves and all objects inside the living room will chat, answering questions and obeying orders from humans. This is no sci-fi movie screenplay: the Speech Recognition technology is simple and has been available since the 80’s. It’s just necessary for companies to create more sophisticated tools and uses for it – a fact that is already happening. Siri is talking proof.
