ASP.NET is a free framework for website creation, utilizing coding languages HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In short, it builds web applications which have the capability of any number of features.   Its first release was in 2002 and since that time there have been numerous updated versions made available to the public.  ASP.NET Website Development is a step many major businesses have undertaken to ensure interactive websites for users.  A few well-known customers include Bing, Xbox360, 3M, msnbc and Kelley Blue Book.

Open source refers to the ability of the general public to contribute to and alter code for software and programming capabilities.  Though not completely relegated to the realm of technology, it has become most widely associated with all things tech: the internet, software, and ecommerce.  Open source has a history extending longer than the past few years, but has a relatively recent popular level of usage with programs like Joomla and Drupal, open source CMSs (content management systems) that offer collaborative opportunities for its developers.  Other examples include Ubuntu, which is an operating system, PHP, a scripting language, and the browser, Firefox.
