In order to make use of  the expectations and characteristics of the target market have to be identified based on the product in question. It is important to figure out what customers are really looking for in a specific product and what key benefits matter to them.

Product design and development for multifunctional tools can be quite difficult since customers expect many different kinds of benefits from them. Some of them the tool can fulfill and some other expectations are just set too highly to live up to.

Some multifunctional products can also seem to be extremely difficult to work with, since they seem to be too sophisticated or complex, for the average customer. Customers can be easily overwhelmed when confronted with too many functions and options. Product design and development focuses on creating user friendly products.

The image of a product depends largely on factors such as materials, performance styling and quality therefore customers require the quality they desire at adequate prices. What is not desired is the highest quality possible when the prices are out of reach.

Another feature included in product design and development should be the costs of the product and product performance output. Needless to say that the material used for making the product should be free from health hazards, economical, appealing and safe.

Product design and development should include pointing out the duration for that a product can be used or its life. When a new product manages to out-date an existing product functional obsolescence takes place.

When choosing to use product design and development it is crucial to get informed about the advantages and skills the product has. Only then it is possible to convincingly advertise a new product.
