To overcome Amazon, Google intends to create a service to deliver products bought on the internet.
Google is developing a project in a field far from technology: the American corporation is investing in a delivery service. Yes, a service to deliver any product that people in New York, San Francisco and other American cities order online. The information was published by two of the most reliable US newspapers, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Google has been talking with retailers over the last few months, trying to create a way for people to shop online and, using Google’s new service, receive the goods within one day .
Why would Google invest in a project like this? It’s not news that the multinational corporation wants to expand beyond internet searches and mobiles devices – just think about GoogleX, a top-secret lab where experts create amazing things like driverless cars. Following the example of other Silicon Valley companies, Google has been following the innovation path. But in this case, Google’s ambition seems to be not only to become a place of high-tech research of all kinds, but also a business choice. Google wants to overtake Amazon, which today has the supremacy in e-commerce worldwide.
To accomplish this goal, Google’s strategy also will include Google Wallet and Google Offers, services that allow people to pay bills using their cell phones and offer clients deals and coupons, respectively.
If your are waiting to see a small post office with Google’s brand near your home, though, give up now: rather than build brick and mortar establishments, Google is looking for partners, like local couriers, to make this plan a reality.
According to The New York Times, the service is still in the testing phase. Although we cannot be sure if Google will move forward with this project, let alone expand it worldwide, probably many Google fans are looking forward to receiving a package delivery through their favorite search engine.
