Canadian businesses have recently discovered the benefits of legal process outsourcing (LPO). The numbers are increasing on a constant basis. Whereas the sales in the year 2010 where estimated to revolve around $640 million, independent technology and market research company Forrester Research claims that those number could rise to $4 billion by 2015.

What are the advantages of legal process outsourcing?

Compare to Canada the costs for legal advices are extremely low in India. Whereas an hour can easily cost a couple hundred Canadian dollars when consulting a lawyer within the country, the same service can be obtained for a fee as little as $25. This information has recently been published by the Canadian Bar Association.

As in most departments the lower the cost the more appealing it is to the customers. Quite often companies or individuals have to save money, may it be to the recent economical crisis or for other reasons, and legal process outsourcing supports this effort.

A great advantage is that companies can have legal advice in their home country as well as in an offshore country. Due to the time difference cases can be processed around the clock and sometimes they can be even finished within a time period of 24 hours.

India has a wide variety of about one million lawyers whose field of expertise is common English and there are many thousand more that graduate each year.

Even though legal process outsourcing has been around for more than a decade, Canadian companies have not gotten a hang of it until now. As with most new methods people are afraid of the consequences and therefore wait until some time passes and the trend has time to become established and proven successful.

The first Canadian company to choose legal process outsourcing started in 2006 and since then quite a few have followed, moving parts of their business to partners in India or the Philippines. Most of them state that it was a good decision which saved time and money.
