The times have changed and so has the way of promoting products, though promoting a product is still done through TV, newspapers etc. However the latest way of promoting any product or website is to do is through social media. Social Networking Image Networking is important for  any business, networking  helps you meet new people  and even the ones that you  have lost touch with.  Networking is usually  underestimated; it should  rather be considered as a  marketing prospect.  Marketing includes  publicizing your products  by press releases,  advertising or even by creating websites. However if you have a huge network it can be used to send the word out about your product, as grapevine is still the best way of marketing your product. Moreover meeting people always helps in building better relations.

There are many social events held on daily basis, but when you pick an even make sure that you choose the one where you will actually get to meet people that would be helpful, else it would just turn out to be a waste of time. Any event that you go to, start with talking to people that you already know like, friends and family. Once you start communicating with people you know you can always mix up with the friends and family and this just helps you increase the network. Whenever you are going to a business party or any event, make sure that you always carry your business card with, so that you can hand them over to potential clients and buyers, this is a good way of marketing your business.

If you are representing your organization make sure that you communicate well, as you are portraying an image your organization and you do not want bad first impressions. Another thing that you should keep in mind is to make sure that you do not sound too needy, because even if someone is paying attention they will probably loose interest in the conservation. One on one conservations are always better than group discussions, when you go to business meeting or an official party, always try to capture phone numbers or business cards and then try to fix up an individual meetings with them. This will allow you to have a more focused conservation with clients or prospect buyers.

Social Media in small businesses is becoming more common, many are aware of the potential benefits that can be developed. Many are still lagging behind as the recent survey by Citibank has portrayed (Reuters, 2009). 86% of small businesses in the US (under 100 employees) do not use social networking sites or do not find them useful in generating business leads or to expand business, can you believe that?! I sure can.

Small businesses that use social media correctly will be using it as a relationship marketing tool rather than a point of sale tool. To do this, it does take a considered effort and time to start creating the social networks that your business can benefit from. As within the physical world networks and relationships take time develop. Small businesses need to make time or hire SMO professionals to develop social media strategies that suit their business.
